Engine 2 Diet

Another Diet Book?

So, what is the Engine 2 Diet and why is it burning up in Web popularity? The Engine 2 Diet plan is the brainchild of Texas firefighter Rip Esselstyn. Esselstyn was inspired to write The Engine 2 Diet book when he discovered that one of his fellow firefighters had a cholesterol level that was off the charts. Soon every fireman in the firehouse started following the Engine 2 Diet plan. Impressively, all of them lost weight, lowered their cholesterol and improved their overall health.

Delighted with the results his fellow firefighters were enjoying as a result of following the Engine 2 diet plan, Esselstyn decided to refine the plan and offer it to the public in the form of a book. The book offer readers two plans: one that is mostly plant based, but includes lean animal foods such as chicken and fish, and one that is entirely plant-based.

Billions of Dollars are Spent on Diet Books

This writer finds it astonishing that the diet industry pulls in billions of dollars a year when there is so much free information out there on how to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. And, besides, for most people, losing weight boils down to two simple strategies: Eat less and exercise more. It's common sense. And common sense is the essence of The Engine 2 Diet plan, for it extols the virtues of eating a diet that is primarily plant-based. Nothing revolutionary is revealed in it.

Diet Fads Come and Go

But new diet books continue to be written and legions of people continue to buy them. Certain diet fads have become so popular that the average citizen could name several of them off the top of their head. There's the Scarsdale Diet, and The South Beach Diet (Bill Clinton tried this one), and The Zone and Sugar Busters! And on and on and on they go.

But America is still the country with the greatest amount of overweight people. What's wrong with this picture? Clearly, knowledge does not necessarily lead to action.
